Anas ibn Malik reported:
Anas ibn Malik reported: There was a Christian man who embraced Islam and he would recite the chapters of Al-Baqarah and Ali Imran and he would write for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Later, he went back to Christianity and he would say, “Muhammad knows nothing but what I have written for him.” Then, Allah caused him to die and the people buried him, but in the morning they saw that the earth had thrown out his body. They said, “This is the act of Muhammad and his companions! They dug up the grave of our companion and took his body out because he had run away from them.” They again dug the grave deeply for him, but in the morning they saw that the earth had thrown out his body. They said, “This is the act of Muhammad and his companions! They dug up the grave of our companion and took his body out because he had run away from them.” They dug the grave for him as deep as they could, but in the morning they say that the earth had thrown out his body. Then they knew that what had happened was not done by people so they left him.

Zaid ibn Thabit reported: Abu Bakr wrote to him when the people of Al-Yamama were killed and Umar was with him. Abu Bakr said, “Indeed, Umar has told me about the heavy casualties among the people of Al-Yamama, the reciters of the Quran and the Muslims, and he said: I fear more casualties among the reciters in the land and that much of the Quran will be lost, so I think you should order the compiling of the Quran.” I said to Umar, “How can I do something which the Messenger of Allah did not do?” Umar said, “By Allah, it is good.” Zaid said, “He did not stop encouraging me to do that until my heart was opened and I agreed with Umar’s view.” Zaid added that when he and Umar were sitting with Abu Bakr he was not speaking, so Abu Bakr said, “Certainly you are smart young man and you would write the revelations for the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, so gather it for him.” Zaid said, “By Allah, if I had been responsible for shifting a mountain among the mountains, that would not have been as heavy as what you have ordered me to do of compiling the Quran.”

Ibn Abbas reported:
Ibn Abbas reported: A man among the helpers embraced Islam and then he became an apostate and joined the idolaters, but he regretted it later; so he sent word to his people, saying, “Ask the Messenger of Allah if there is any repentance for me.” His people came to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, and they said, “He has regretted what he has done, and he wants us to ask you if there is any repentance for him.” Thus, Allah revealed, “How shall Allah guide a people who disbelieved after their faith?” up to His words, “Except for those who repent after that and correct themselves; for verily, Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.” (3:86-89) So they sent for him and he embraced Islam.

Allah the Almighty said: My servant has himself forestalled Me, so I have forbidden Paradise for him.”
