My father was martyred on the day of Uhud and left nine (orphan) daughters
who are my nine sisters; so I disliked to have another young girl of their
age, but (I sought) an (elderly) woman who could comb their hair and look
after them." The Prophet (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) said, "You have
done the right thing."

A bowl of water was brought to the Prophet (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam)
while he was at Az-Zawra. He placed his hand in it and the water started
flowing among his fingers. All the people performed ablution (with that

Ibn Abu Layli reported: Eisa ibn Musa said to me (and he was a religious man who was severe in his tribalism and bias toward the Arabs), “Who is the jurist of Basra?” I said, “Al-Hasan ibn Abu Al-Hasan and Muhammad ibn Sireen.” He said, “What are these two?” I said, “They are both not Arabs.” He said, “Who is the jurist of Mecca?” I said, “’Ata ibn Rabah, Mujahid, Sa’eed ibn Jubair, and Sulaiman ibn Yassar.” He said, “What are they?” I said, “They are not Arabs.” He said, “Who is the jurist of Medina?” I said, “Zaid ibn Aslam, Muhammad ibn Munkadar, and Nafi’ ibn Abu Junaih.” He said, “What are they?” I said, “They are not Arabs.” His face began to change and he said, “Who is the jurist of Quba?” I said, “Rabia and Ibn Abu Zinad.” He said, “What are they?” I said, “They are not Arabs.” Then his face started to get red and he said, “Who is the jurist of Yemen?” I said, “Tawus and his sons.” He said, “What are they?” I said, “They are not Arabs.” His face became even redder until he calmed down and he said, “Who is the jurist of Syria?” I said, “Makhul.” He said, “What is Makhul?” I said, “He is not Arab.” He began to sigh heavily and he said, “Who is the jurist of Kufa?” By Allah, if I did not fear evil from him, I would have said Hakim ibn Utbah and Ammar ibn Abu Salman but instead I said, “The jurist of Kufa is Ibrahim ibn An-Nakha’i and Ash-Sha’bi.” He said, “What are they?” I said, “They are both Arabs.” He said, “Allah is the greatest! Had not you said that, I would have expired!”

عَنْ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَقِيتُ لَيْلَةَ أُسْرِيَ بِي إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَمُوسَى وَعِيسَى قَالَ فَتَذَاكَرُوا أَمْرَ السَّاعَةِ فَرَدُّوا أَمْرَهُمْ إِلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ فَقَالَ لَا عِلْمَ لِي بِهَا فَرَدُّوا الْأَمْرَ إِلَى مُوسَى فَقَالَ لَا عِلْمَ لِي بِهَا فَرَدُّوا الْأَمْرَ إِلَى عِيسَى فَقَالَ أَمَّا وَجْبَتُهَا فَلَا يَعْلَمُهَا أَحَدٌ إِلَّا اللَّهُ ذَلِكَ وَفِيمَا عَهِدَ إِلَيَّ رَبِّي عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَنَّ الدَّجَّالَ خَارِجٌ قَالَ وَمَعِي قَضِيبَانِ فَإِذَا رَآنِي ذَابَ كَمَا يَذُوبُ الرَّصَاصُ قَالَ فَيُهْلِكُهُ اللَّهُ حَتَّى إِنَّ الْحَجَرَ وَالشَّجَرَ لَيَقُولُ يَا مُسْلِمُ إِنَّ تَحْتِي كَافِرًا فَتَعَالَ فَاقْتُلْهُ قَالَ فَيُهْلِكُهُمْ اللَّهُ ثُمَّ يَرْجِعُ النَّاسُ إِلَى بِلَادِهِمْ وَأَوْطَانِهِمْ قَالَ فَعِنْدَ ذَلِكَ يَخْرُجُ يَأْجُوجُ وَمَأْجُوجُ وَهُمْ مِنْ كُلِّ حَدَبٍ يَنْسِلُونَ فَيَطَئُونَ بِلَادَهُمْ لَا يَأْتُونَ عَلَى شَيْءٍ إِلَّا أَهْلَكُوهُ وَلَا يَمُرُّونَ عَلَى مَاءٍ إِلَّا شَرِبُوهُ ثُمَّ يَرْجِعُ النَّاسُ إِلَيَّ فَيَشْكُونَهُمْ فَأَدْعُو اللَّهَ عَلَيْهِمْ فَيُهْلِكُهُمْ اللَّهُ وَيُمِيتُهُمْ حَتَّى تَجْوَى الْأَرْضُ مِنْ نَتْنِ رِيحِهِمْ قَالَ فَيُنْزِلُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ الْمَطَرَ فَتَجْرُفُ أَجْسَادَهُمْ حَتَّى يَقْذِفَهُمْ فِي الْبَحْرِ قَالَ فَفِيمَا عَهِدَ إِلَيَّ رَبِّي عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَنَّ ذَلِكَ إِذَا كَانَ كَذَلِكَ فَإِنَّ السَّاعَةَ كَالْحَامِلِ الْمُتِمِّ الَّتِي لَا يَدْرِي أَهْلُهَا مَتَى تَفْجَؤُهُمْ بِوِلَادِهَا لَيْلًا أَوْ نَهَارًا

I heard Allah's Apostle (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) saying, "Anybody who
spends a pair of something in Allah's Cause will be called from all the
gates of Paradise, 'O Allah's slave! This is good.'

He who is amongst those who pray will be called from the gate of the prayer
(in Paradise) and he who is from the people of Jihad will be called from
the gate of Jihad, and he who is from those who give in charity (i.e.
Zakat) will be called from the gate of charity, and he who is amongst those
who observe fast will be called from the gate of fasting, the gate of
Raiyan."

Abu Bakr said, "He who is called from all those gates will need nothing,"
He added, "Will anyone be called from all those gates, O Allah's Apostle?"
He said, "Yes, and I hope you will be among those, O Abu Bakr."
