Ibn Abu Mulaika reported:

Ibn Abu Mulaika reported: After the night prayer, Mu’awiya would offer only one cycle of Witr prayer. At the time, a freed slave of Ibn Abbas was present and he disagreed. He went to Ibn Abbas and he said, “Leave him, for he is a companion of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him.” [Sahih Bukhari, Book 57, Number 108] عَنْ ابْنِ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ قَالَ أَوْتَرَ مُعَاوِيَةُ بَعْدَ الْعِشَاءِ بِرَكْعَةٍ وَعِنْدَهُ مَوْلًى لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فَأَتَى ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ فَقَالَ دَعْهُ فَإِنَّهُ قَدْ صَحِبَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ 3553 صحيح البخاري كتاب فضائل الصحابة باب ذكر معاوية رضي الله عنه

Mukhayriq is the foremost

Ibn Shihab reported: Mukhayriq the Jew gave his wealth as an endowment to the Prophet, peace be upon him, and on the day of Uhud he was martyred and killed during the battle. The Messenger of Allah said, “Mukhayriq is the foremost among the Jews; Salman is the foremost among the Persians; and Bilal is the foremost among the Abyssinians.”

[Ibn Shabbah, Ta’reekh Al-Madinah 467]

In another narration, the Prophet said, “Mukhayriq was the best of the Jews.”

[Ibn Sa’d, Tabaqat Al-Kubra 1535]

ابْنِ شِهَابٍ قال وَأَوْصَى مُخَيْرِيقُ بِأَمْوَالِهِ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَشَهِدَ أُحُدًا فَقُتِلَ بِهِ فقال رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُخَيْرِيقُ سَابِقُ يَهُودَ وَسَلْمَانُ سَابِقُ فَارِسَ وَبِلالٌ سَابِقُ الْحَبَشَةِ

Mukhayriq was the best of the Jews

Ibn Ishaq reported: Mukhayriq the Jew was one of the best scholars and he was a very wealthy man due to his business selling dates. He recognized the Prophet, peace be upon him, by his description in scripture and by what he found in his teachings. However, he was accustomed to his religion and this held him back until the day of Uhud, which fell upon the Sabbath day. Mukhayriq said, “O assembly of Jews, by Allah, you know that it is a duty for you to support Muhammad.” They said, “Indeed, it is the Sabbath day.” He said, “I will not rest after today.” Then he took his weapon and he went out until he reached the Messenger of Allah and his companions, and they made a covenant with everyone who was behind him. He said, “Indeed, if I am killed today, I want my wealth to go to Muhammad, so he will do with it whatever Allah wills.” Then he went out fighting the idolaters until he was killed and when news of this reached the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, he said, “Mukhayriq was the best of the Jews.” So the Prophet inherited his wealth and he bestowed it as charity among the common people living in Medina.

عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ قَالَ وَكَانَ مِنْ حَدِيثِ مُخَيْرِيقٍ وَكَانَ حَبْرًا عَالِمًا وَكَانَ رَجُلا غَنِيًّا كَثِيرَ الأَمْوَالِ مِنَ النَّخْلِ وَكَانَ يَعْرِفُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِصِفَتِهِ وَبِمَا يَجِدُ فِي عِلْمِهِ وَغَلَبَ عَلَيْهِ إِلْفُ دِينِهِ فَلَمْ يَزَلْ عَلَى ذَاكَ حَتَّى كَانَ يَوْمُ أُحُدٍ وَكَانَ يَوْمَ السَّبْتِ قَالَ يَا مَعْشَرَ الْيَهُودِ وَاللَّهِ إِنَّكُمْ لَتَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ نَصْرَ مُحَمَّدٍ عَلَيْكُمْ لَحَقٌّ قَالُوا إِنَّ الْيَوْمَ يَوْمُ السَّبْتِ قَالَ لا سَبْتَ بَعْدَ الْيَوْمِ ثُمَّ أَخَذَ سِلاحَهُ وَخَرَجَ حَتَّى أَتَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَصْحَابَهُ بِأُحُدٍ وَعَهِدَ إِلَى مَنْ وَرَاءَهُ مِنْ قَوْمِهِ إِنْ قُتِلْتُ هَذَا الْيَوْمَ فَمَالِي لِمُحَمَّدٍ ، يَصْنَعُ فِيهِ مَا أَرَاهُ اللَّهُ فَلَمَّا اقْتَتَلَ النَّاسُ قَاتَلَ حَتَّى قُتِلَ فَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِيمَا بَلَغَنِي يَقُولُ مُخَيْرِيقٌ خَيْرُ يَهُودَ وَقَبَضَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمْوَالَهُ فَعَامَّةُ صَدَقَاتِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِالْمَدِينَةِ مِنْهَا
